Admission of children
South Gloucestershire's Education Policy currently allows children the opportunity to have seven years primary education. Children can be admitted to school in September provided their fourth birthday is on or before 31st August. (Equally parents have no legal duty to send their children to school on or before 31st August)
Our school has an admission level (standard number) of 60 pupils for each school year. The current number on roll is 365.
Children spend 3 years in the Key Stage 1 department (infants) and 4 years in the key Stage 2 department (juniors). However we see ourselves as one all through Primary School and children move freely about all areas of the building all through their school life.
During the half term before a child starts school, several visits are arranged so that the child can gradually get used to the school, their classroom and their teacher before they actually start. Parents will be sent details giving the times and dates of all introductory visits, as well as the date for their child to be formally admitted to school. There is also a meeting for parents when they can meet and listen to all those who will be part of their child's life through the years to come.
There is a phased admission procedure for children starting school in the Reception class details of which can be obtained from the school office.
Children joining the school at any other time are given a comprehensive tour of the school with their parents. The headteacher will conduct this tour and will make sure any questions are answered. If parents feel it would be helpful, children new to the school may make a preparatory visit to their new classes. Back to top
