Together We Can Make It

Music

Music is taught throughout the school and follows closely the National Curriculum.

We aim to develop the children's performing skills of singing and playing as well as giving opportunity for composing and creating their own musical ideas. There will be many chances to respond to music they have listened to and review music they have played. They will be able to listen and apply knowledge and understanding, by experiencing for example, music from different times and cultures.

Music is also taught as an extra-curricular subject. At present, the children can have lessons in the recorder, flute, cello and the violin. All of these except recorder have to be paid for at approximately £3 per lesson. The school also has a lively choir, who have recently performed at the Colston Hall. Other events occur throughout the year, such as school concerts and children are often invited to perform at local musical events and workshops.
At Abbotswood, we enjoy making Music a cross curricular subject. This display shows how we used Music as an inspiration when studying Picasso.
