Key Stage 1 Assessment Details

In Key Stage One SATs take place for all year 2 children. These are statutory tests, set by the Government. They form part of the overall picture your teacher has of your child and the results of these assessments will be given to you in your child's Summer Report.

The SATs for Year 2 take place throughout May 2008.

This may seem like a long time, but in Key Stage One we like to spread the tests over a longer period of time, rather than pack them into a short space of time. The children may not be involved in all of the tests, and many of the tests take part in their normal school lessons. Sometimes the children do not even realise they are taking a test.

IT IS CRUCIAL THAT YOUR CHILD COMES TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY AND ON TIME DURING THESE NEXT WEEKS!

Please do not take your child out of class unless it is for an important medical reason. Most of the SATs take place in the morning, when your child is most refreshed. Please help your child to get plenty of sleep, fresh air and exercise over the next few weeks! If your child misses a test we will arrange for them to take it at another time. Don't make a big issue out of the SATs. Remember that SATs are backed up by the teacher's own assessments which happen continually throughout the year.

Year 2 children will have tests in Maths, Reading, Writing, Handwriting and Spelling.

YEAR 1 CHILDREN WILL CONTINUE TO BE TAUGHT THEIR CURRICULUM AT THIS TIME BY THE TEACHING ASSISTANTS, STUDENT TEACHERS AND TEACHERS.

If you want to find out more information about the Year 2 SATs you could talk to one of the teachers after school, when we would be more than happy to chat. Or you could check out some websites, such as www.sparkisland.com

It is never too late to help your child!

Go through the year 2 keywords with them (your teacher can provide a list) and check they know them.

Read daily with your child and ASK THEM QUESTIONS about the book. Especially questions that start with WHY...?
